Welcome to Striving Lotus Psychotherapy, Nottingham
My name is Matthew Calvert, and I am a qualified humanistic integrative therapist. I offer a calm, respectful and compassionate space in Nottingham where your thoughts, feelings and experiences can be explored at your own pace.
Striving Lotus Psychotherapy draws inspiration from the powerful symbolism of the lotus flower, which rises through muddy waters to bloom in the light. This journey mirrors the therapeutic process, emerging from confusion, pain and trauma towards clarity, growth and self-acceptance. Rooted in the belief that each person has an innate capacity for healing. Striving Lotus Psychotherapy provides a compassionate and grounded space for transformation to unfold. Even in life’s most challenging conditions.
Whether you’re sitting with anxiety, low mood, overwhelm, past trauma, relationship difficulties or simply a sense that something isn’t quite right, this is a place where you can bring whatever is happening for you. The work is relational, collaborative and grounded in who you are, not who you “should” be.
“Therapy can offer a space where difficult feelings and experiences are met rather than managed alone, creating room for understanding, relief and new possibilities.”
Located at Ransom Wood Business Park, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, NG21 0HJ, Striving Lotus Psychotherapy offers a calm, private woodland setting for face-to-face therapy sessions
within easy reach of many surrounding towns and villages.
The practice is conveniently positioned between the M1 and A1, and close to the A614 and A60, making it accessible for clients travelling from across Nottinghamshire, North Derbyshire, and parts of South Yorkshire.

What Is Humanistic & Integrative Psychotherapy?
Humanistic and integrative psychotherapy brings together different approaches to support the whole being: mind, body, emotions and relationships. This approach focuses on your unique needs and areas for growth, helping you explore where you feel stuck and discover new ways of living with greater balance, awareness and authenticity.
Drawing upon and combining different humanistic and relational theories allows me to tailor our sessions to meet your individual needs. I work with you to explore and gain understanding of what is going on, at your own pace, with a sense of autonomy and purpose.

EMDR Therapy
In addition to humanistic integrative therapy, I also offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). This is a therapy that helps people process difficult or distressing experiences. Whilst it includes talking, much of the work involves focused internal processing.
Using gentle side-to-side eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps the brain reprocess stuck memories. These unresolved experiences can affect thoughts, feelings and reactions long after the event. EMDR helps release and integrate them, reducing their intensity and allowing for a more balanced sense of wellbeing.
I am also IPHM - International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine accredited.

No Cost Initial Session
Finding the right therapist really matters, and it’s important that you feel comfortable. I offer a no-cost initial session to talk about what brings you here and what you hope to achieve. It’s a gentle first step, a chance for us both to get a sense of each other and see whether my way of working feels right for you.
Therapy isn’t a fixed path. It’s a journey that can take unexpected turns as your needs, insights, and experiences unfold. In this initial meeting, I can answer any questions, address any concerns, and discuss how we might begin.
